Ex-President Bush treated for dehydration

WASHINGTON — Former President George H.W. Bush was admitted to the hospital in California on Sunday and released Monday, following treatment for dehydration.

Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said the 82-year-old Bush was playing golf in 95-degree heat and, after becoming dehydrated, was taken to the hospital and kept overnight for observation.

Becker said the former president he has been released from the hospital and is back at the private residence in Rancho Mirage, Calif., where he had been staying.

He is planning to return to Houston later on Monday.

The former president is scheduled to speak tonight, as part of the speaker series of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Music Center at the Civic Center in Los Angeles. A spokesperson for the center says the event will go on as planned.
